People’s Survey: Experiences with the Bar Admission Process

The Character and Fitness process is a black box with little accessible data on its effects or disparities. Yet we know that these moral inquiries are having disproportionate impacts. UTB is hoping to collect that information through the launch of the People’s Survey on Character and Fitness! This survey is for anyone at any level of interaction with the legal profession, from currently admitted to totally deterred. The password to access is utb54.

Story Collection

Unlock the Bar is interested in collecting stories of people who have been impacted by criminal and civil legal systems, or from another marginalized group, that have encountered difficult experiences with the Character and Fitness process. These stories will be used to garner support internally on the different facets of our movement, and will also be compiled for our story/narrative bank, which brings to life the personal narratives that are the heart of the movement to abolish the Character and Fitness. Stories related to the New York Bar are especially welcome. This information will be completely confidential unless authorized to share.
